Tuesday 10 February 2009 D&AD Awards Brief with John Clamp

Today we had our first class with John Clamp (a Programme Area Leader for Digital Arts & Photography). He gave us a thorough introduction into the D&AD Awards Brief and let us knows a brief history of the completion and its status as a now internationally recognized design platform.
After the presentation he talked to each of us individually.
I think I am going to try the
Craft –Animation Brief for the Science Museum
Create a short animation (no more than 90 seconds) that will capture the imagination of 8-14-year-olds, taking the bizarre, wonderful, non-existent existence of the
black hole as your starting point.

The main challenge in this brief is the fact that its target audience is 8 -14 year olds.

One to one points
• Treat the brief as a 30 sec advert or Science Museum Exhibition intro.
• Look at the technology driving the idea
• Why do kids find this subject boring?
• What is a black hole? What is the science behind it?
• Difficulties of teaching science to 8 – 14 year olds.
